Find a Weight Loss Buddy in Boston

So you want to find a weight loss buddy in Boston, but you're not sure where to begin? No problem, here's some suggestions to help you find a weight loss buddy in Boston. I've broken down this blog post into two categories: Things to look for in a weight loss buddy in Boston, and places to find a weight loss buddy in Boston.

Things to look for in a Boston Weight Loss Buddy:

  • Someone with similar goals

Sure, you're both looking to lose weight, but 'weight' can have many different meanings for two individuals. One person may be looking to lose 10 pounds and to tone up, while the other may be looking to lose 50 pounds. Two similar goals on the surface, but drastically different meanings. When looking for a Boston weight loss buddy, you need to be sure you're both on the same track so you can keep each other motivated to reach your goals.

  • Someone who lives nearby

Imagine this: You and your weight loss buddy have similar goals, and you're super motivated to begin your weight loss journey. You get into the office at 8AM, you finish work at 5PM, you take the bus home and are back at 6PM, and now you're looking to join an exercise class in Boston with your weight loss buddy. Only problem is, your weight loss buddy has been working all day, too, and they just got home and live 40 minutes away from you. How do you plan on ever getting together when you live so far away? So keep in mind that distance between the two of you is really important! You can make it work, but it's important to keep in mind, especially after a long day of work.

  • Someone with a similar schedule

If you work 7-4 and your weight loss buddy works 10-7, your schedules simply won't work together. Sure you can work out on weekends, but for a sustainable workout plan with your weight loss buddy, you should be sure that your schedules align and work together.

Now that you've got a framework for finding a weight loss buddy in Boston, here's some places you can go to find a buddy:

Places to find a weight loss buddy

  • Fitness boot camps

There are fitness boot camps throughout the city that you can join, both indoor and outdoor, and meet other individuals with similar goals to you. Chances are if they are in the same class as you, they have a similar schedule, similar goals, and probably live nearby!

  • Gym group classes

Again, very similar to going to a fitness boot camp, the people you meet will likely make a good fit for a weight loss buddy. Get social and talk to people in the class! Find out their goals, and see if everything aligns.

  • Gym

If you're a member of a local gym, there's probably a lot of individuals that live close to you with similar goals and a similar schedule that could use a weight loss buddy, too! Connect with your fellow gym members, talk around, and see if there's synergy.

  • Craigslist

Craigslist or other networking / posting sites may be a good way to connect with others. You could post a listing that you're looking for a weight loss buddy in Boston in a specific part of the city, and connect with another individual who was looking to post the same!

  • At work

Chances are, there are a lot of people at your work who work out and are conscious of their health. Chat around and see if anyone else is looking for a weight loss buddy. There's a high likelihood that they're thinking it, but just not talking about it.

  • Friends

Think simple, here! Your friends may have the same goals as you. Maybe they've been thinking about having a weight loss buddy, but they've just been too shy to bring it up. Ask some of your friends to join a local class with you and start a weight loss journey with you.

  • Through common connections

The best way to meet people is through your current connections. We're linked to tens of thousands of individuals through our friends of friends, which can be a great way to find a weight loss buddy in Boston. Talk to your current connections, and see if they can recommend a friend of theirs who has similar goals.
